Science to Society

Modern society cannot move forward without the development of science, just as science cannot successfully carry out its tasks without the support of society. The interaction of society and science is a two–way process that requires constant attention. This goal is served, in particular, by Science Festivals, which are held annually in Russia on the initiative of the Lomonosov Moscow State University. The IV Science Festival will be held in October this year. This competition is held within the framework of the Science Festival. The purpose of the competition is to encourage the popularization of science.

The competition takes place in two directions. Popular scientific articles and videos about science dedicated to the achievements of Russian science in recent years are submitted to the competition – both published (posted on television and on the Internet) and written specifically for the competition.

The contest accepts articles written in 2009, as well as videos posted on television or on the Internet for the same period of time. In these works, it should be popularly told about a particular scientific research or technology, about a scientific team or an outstanding scientist. The article should be specific and clear, presented in a popular, good literary language. The article can be supplemented with illustrations. Articles and videos should not contain inappropriate technical details, formulas, they should not be overloaded with special terminology that is incomprehensible to a wide audience.

The works are accepted until September 15, 2009, the winners will be announced in October 2009, as part of the IV Science Festival program.
