Summer School in Lausanne

Grants 2014 for participation in the summer educational program (Lausanne, Switzerland)

The Federal Polytechnic Institute of Lausanne (Ecole polytechnique federale de Lausanne) holds a competition among students to participate in the summer research program (internship) – International Summer Research Program for Undergraduate Life Science Students.

University students studying biology, physics, chemistry, bioengineering, computer disciplines and planning to specialize further in the "Life sciences" are invited to participate in the competition.

The competition is open to students who by the summer of 2014 will have completed at least the 2nd year of university in the system of four-year education (bachelor's degree).

In exceptional cases, participation in the Master's program of 1 year of study is allowed. Medical students are allowed to participate in the program if their specialization involves knowledge of the fundamental foundations of physics, biology, genetics, etc.

The organizers place high demands on the level of academic performance of the participants. Detailed information about the "passing score" for participation in the Summer School and a list of documents that must be submitted to participate in the competition are published on the event's website in the section "Selection Criteria"

Usually, the organizers receive about 700 applications, from which 25 participants of the program are selected.

Students will have the opportunity to train in the laboratory of one of the 4 institutes:

  • Brain Mind Instutute (BMI)
  • Institute of Bioengineering (IBI)
  • Global Health Institute (GHI)
  • Swiss Institute for Experimental Cancer Research (ISREC)

Students are provided with a scholarship, transportation costs are paid. Usually, European students are reimbursed for transportation costs in the amount of up to 500 Swiss francs, non–Europeans - up to 1200 CHF.

The terms of the Summer School in 2014 are from July 3 to August 27.

Applications are accepted until January 31, 2014.
