Swiss scholarships for infectious diseases

Grants 2013 for internship in Switzerland for young scientists

The International Society for Infectious Diseases Research (ISID) together with the Swiss Society for Infectious Diseases (SSI) have established a scholarship program for young researchers.

Within the framework of the program, grants are provided to young doctors and scientists from developing countries, countries with economies in transition, and Eastern European countries to participate in interdisciplinary internships and clinical research at biomedical institutes in Switzerland.

The program provides for a significant range of scientific directions, ranging from fundamental studies of the mechanism of infection spread to research in the field of public health, epidemiology, diagnostics, therapy, and vaccine development.

The scholarship is provided for one year.

The annual amount of funding – 36,000 SF (about $35,500 USD) – is allocated to cover the travel and living expenses of the scholarship holder.

Knowledge of a foreign language is required to participate in the program. If the institutes of Basel, Bern, Zurich and St. Gallen are chosen as the host institution, then knowledge of German is required, and French is required to participate in programs in Geneva and Lausanne. The application must also indicate the degree of proficiency in English.

Applicants must have an M.D. or PhD degree in the relevant field and be employees of medical or research institutes, healthcare institutions in their home country.

Applications for participation in the program are accepted until April 1, 2013.

All participants of the contest will be notified of the results by July 1, 2013.
