Patents Power 2021 Competition for Biotech Startups
The Skolkovo Foundation (VEB Group.Russian Federation), Bayer and the Skolkovo Intellectual Property Center have started accepting applications for the competition of biotechnological startups with a high potential for intellectual property protection in the areas of cardiology, oncology, gynecology, ophthalmology, gene and cell therapy. Three finalists will receive grants in the amount of 700 thousand rubles and mentoring support.
The purpose of the competition, which is being held for the fourth time at the Skolkovo Foundation site, is to search for promising innovative projects with a high potential for intellectual property protection. The project partners are the Eurasian Patent Organization, Rospatent and the Representative Office of the World Intellectual Property Organization in the Russian Federation.
Companies engaged in the development of medicines/biomedical cellular products for women's health, the treatment of cardiovascular and ophthalmological diseases, and malignant neoplasms can take part in the competition. Projects in the field of digital healthcare are also being considered: medical equipment, wearable devices, software, electronic applications, monitoring systems and other digital solutions.
This year's program includes an educational seminar for participants and all interested parties, as well as a mentoring session for the winners with Russian and international Bayer experts. The contest partners will talk about the features of intellectual property protection and how to attract investment in a startup.
Bayer will provide grants in the amount of 700 thousand rubles to the three winners selected by the expert jury. Some of them should be aimed at protecting patent rights. Bayer will also share its industrial expertise in the field of intellectual property protection, and ensure the participation of the winners of the competition in a specialized mentoring session.
Representatives of the Eurasian Patent Organization will take part as experts of the competition and the educational seminar, as well as be part of the jury of the final competitive selection and award the winner with the medal of honor of the Patent Office.
Applications are accepted until October 17, 2021 on the contest website.
