The Second All-Russian Olympiad in Nanotechnology

Lomonosov Moscow State University announces the start of registration for the second All–Russian Nanotechnology Olympiad "Nanotechnology - a breakthrough into the future!" (e-NANOS'08).

The purpose of the Olympiad is to popularize knowledge in the field of nanotechnology, as well as to search for and encourage young talents who want to participate in the development of nanotechnology in the Russian Federation.

Participation in the Olympiad is possible for all users of the World Wide Web, whose age as of June 1, 2008 does not exceed 27 years, and who registered before April 5, 2008 (inclusive). A separate correspondence tour is organized for schoolchildren. Participation in the Olympiad is free of charge. The winners and prize-winners of the Olympiad will be awarded cash prizes, as well as valuable gifts from sponsors. The total number of winners and prize-winners of the Olympiad will be 10 people.

In 2008 The Olympiad is held in two stages. The first round will be held remotely in two stages: from April 6 to 11 for schoolchildren and from April 12 to 20, 2008 for other participants. Creative tasks in the field of chemistry and nanochemistry, physics of nanosystems, biology, materials science are waiting for all participants.

The winners of the first round (15-25 people) will receive an invitation to a face-to-face tour.

The full-time round of the Olympiad will take place on May 15-17, 2008 at Lomonosov Moscow State University (hereinafter MSU) and will take place in the form of additional computer testing and a number of practical tasks. On May 17, the winners and prize-winners of the Olympiad will be solemnly awarded prizes, commemorative diplomas, as well as valuable gifts from the organizers and sponsors of the Olympiad.

The Organizing Committee pays for transportation and living expenses in Moscow for nonresident participants of the intramural tour.

Calendar of events:
• until April 5, 2008 inclusive - registration of participants of the Olympiad on the Nanometer website
• from April 6 to April 11, 2008 – the correspondence round of the Olympiad for schoolchildren on the Nanometer website (participation in this round is counted only for schoolchildren)
• from April 12 to April 20, 2008 – the correspondence round of the Olympiad on the Nanometer website, designed for all participants not older than 27 years
• April 30, 2008 – announcement of the results of the correspondence tour;
• from May 15 to May 16, 2008 – a full–time round of the Olympiad with general tasks for all participants - winners of the first round (including schoolchildren) at Moscow State University;
• May 17, 2008 – the public ceremony of awarding the winners of the Olympiad at Moscow State University.

Prize fund and nominations of the Olympiad:
The prize fund of the Olympiad was formed by the Moscow State University and the sponsors of the Olympiad; the absolute winners of the first degree (50,000 rubles prize), second degree (30,000 rubles prize) and third degree (20,000 rubles prize), the winners in the nominations "best student" and "best young scientist" will be determined by the total points of the correspondence and full-time rounds. Prizes in nominations (at least 10,000 rubles for each) are set by the Organizing Committee or sponsors of the Olympiad for participants who have scored the highest number of points in solving various blocks of tasks, but have not become absolute winners in the overall standings. The "Commonwealth" nomination is established for the best participants representing the CIS countries or Russian-speaking diasporas abroad. The winners in the nomination "For the will to win" are determined by any of the tasks chosen by the Organizing Committee or sponsors of the Olympiad. Separately, there is also an incentive for winning the competition of innovative ideas, which will be announced during the period of solving the tasks of the first round.

The winners of the Olympiad can be additionally marked with letters of thanks sent to the place of study or work of the participants. The winners and prize–winners of the Olympiad will also be able to establish contacts with employers and sponsors of the Olympiad for the purpose of their career growth.
