Winter School “Brains, genes, drugs and languages: crossroads in science“

Competitive selection for participation in the 20th Winter School of the University of Helsinki (Finland, 2016)

The CIMO Center for International Mobility accepts applications from Russian and Ukrainian postgraduate students (undergraduates, postgraduates) to participate in the 20th Winter Interdisciplinary School in Finland.

The School's events will be held from March 7 to 12, 2016 on the territory of the zoological station in Tvarminna (University of Helsinki).

The purpose of the School is to increase the professional mobility of young researchers and postgraduate students from universities in Finland and the participating countries of the School, to strengthen inter–university cooperation. 

Potential participants of the School are recommended to establish contact with one or more heads of scientific (research) groups at Finnish universities before submitting an application and discuss with them the possibility of implementing a joint research project. The Finnish side's interest in the implementation of such a project will be considered as an advantage during the competitive selection of School participants.

Participants of the Winter School who have received invitations to implement a research project in the scientific (research) group of the Finnish University will be offered a scholarship, which they can use for two years after graduation from the Winter School. The scholarship is awarded within the framework of the Center for International Mobility (CIMO Fellowship program) and involves working on a project in the host scientific group for 3-18 months. The scholarship amount is 1,500 euros per month (for the period of 2016). 

The 20th Winter School “Brains, genes, drugs and languages: crossroads in science" is interdisciplinary. The 2016 school is focused on the research of brain diseases, their connection with genetics, linguistic research in comparison with the genetic data of the population of Northern Europe and beyond this area, the study of new methods of creating pharmaceuticals.

Young specialists (citizens of Russia, Ukraine) under the age of 35 from such fields as genetics, molecular and cellular biology, physiology, biomedicine, neuroscience, computational linguistics, chemistry, biophysics, nanotechnology, pharmacology are invited to participate in the School. 

Applications are accepted until October 19, 2015.
