A very cultured minister

The Minister of Culture believes that Russians have an extra chromosome

BFM.RuThe Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinsky in October last year gave an interview to the American Russian-language newspaper "Russian Life", which is published in San Francisco.

Reflecting on the fate of the Motherland, the head of the Ministry of Culture said: "I believe that after all the catastrophes that befell Russia in the 20th century, starting with the First World War and ending with Perestroika, the fact that Russia is still preserved and developing says that our people have one extra chromosome."

Apparently, he wanted to emphasize the remarkable strength of the peoples living in Russia. However, as soon as this statement became known to the Russian Internet community (and it happened only now), a wave of indignation rose in the blogosphere.

Users note that an unpaired number of chromosomes is a sign of "Down syndrome".

"I wonder if Medinsky himself has this extra chromosome?" some write.

"Simply put, Medinsky called the Russians downs. Very patient downs. You didn't know? Me too. It's a bit insulting, of course, but what can you object to," another user complains.

"I'm not inciting, if anything, and I guess he wanted to say that the Russians are the best... the current came out "as always," writes the third (the spelling of the original source is preserved).

Last November, State Duma deputy Ilya Kostunov already spoke about the mental abilities of Russians. "The dumbest deputy is smarter than the average Russian," Ilya Kostunov, a State Duma deputy from United Russia, said in an interview with the Public Post in response to a question about how well he copes with parliamentary activities.Later, his act was discussed at the ethics commission of the State Duma, and he had to apologize.
