Cream with collagen will not help from wrinkles

MedikForum

Buying an anti-wrinkle cream containing collagen is a waste of money. This conclusion was reached by scientists from the UK.

Collagen creams occupy an increasing share in the market of cosmetic products every year. The advertisement tells us that collagen has a beneficial effect on the skin of the face, toning and nourishing it, and also effectively acts against wrinkles, smoothing them. But is this really the case?

The British charity society Sense About Science has commissioned a study of the most popular creams with collagen from a group of experts. They found out that the collagen molecules contained in these products are so large that they practically do not pass through the pores of the skin. As a result, the entire cream remains on the surface and is then washed off with water, without having any effect against wrinkles.

This, of course, does not mean that collagen itself is not important for the skin. This protein provides its strength and elasticity, but its quantity, alas, decreases with age. Manufacturers of collagen creams claim that their products can replenish the missing supply of protein, and, consequently, rejuvenate the skin and smooth out wrinkles.

But a group of scientists from the University of Bath, led by Professor Richard Guy, refuted all these advertising claims. "The main idea of manufacturers of such products is that collagen supposedly penetrates through the upper layer of the skin, making up for the lack of this protein in the body," says Professor Guy. Collagen is a fairly large substance, and our skin is created by nature in order not to let such sizes inside. The vast majority of such creams do not go anywhere beyond the skin, it's a waste of your money."
