Harry Houdini Award

Award Rules

The Harry Houdini Prize is a prize of 1 million rubles to any person who has clearly demonstrated psychic, supernatural or paranormal abilities during a strictly controlled scientific experiment.

Paranormal are considered individual human abilities, the existence of which is not reliably confirmed and contradicts the modern scientific picture of the world.

Examples: aura vision, communication with spirits, clairvoyance, telepathy, dowsing and other psychic abilities, telekinesis, levitation, etc.

Any capable applicant who has reached the age of 18 and the level of education, who agrees with these rules, can be admitted to the test. The application for testing is submitted electronically in Russian (the form is published on the website of the Harry Houdini Prize). In the application, it is necessary to briefly describe the essence of the paranormal abilities available to him, which the applicant claims to possess, and the principal ways to verify them. In order for the application to be considered, the applicant must provide evidence of his declared abilities. One or several certificates are accepted as certificates, at the choice of the applicant:
  1. A letter of recommendation from a scientist working in a state scientific institution and having a candidate's or doctor's degree in the field of medical, technical, exact or natural sciences. Publications in Russian socio-political media at the federal level, in which correspondents describe in detail the paranormal abilities of the applicant indicated by him in the submitted application.
  2. A video with a demonstration of their paranormal abilities, in the creation of which no special effects and dubious video editing were used.
  3.  Each application is considered by the Organizing Committee individually.
If necessary, the Organizing Committee may request additional information from the applicant. Based on the results of the review, the Organizing Committee sends the applicant its decision to accept the application or a reasoned refusal in an email. The Organizing Committee of the Harry Houdini Prize recognizes only the results of its own testing conducted in accordance with the previously agreed rules as confirmation of paranormal abilities.

No other arguments, including documents, video recordings, witness statements of third parties, are the basis for the payment of the award. The Organizing Committee of the award also reserves the right to refuse the applicant if the experiment is likely to be dangerous to the life and health of the subject or other persons (in particular, it is associated with restriction in food, water, respiratory arrest, the use of narcotic or other dangerous or prohibited substances, the use of dangerous technical devices).

Testing of the presence of paranormal abilities is carried out in accordance with the principles:

  1. The applicant must clearly formulate exactly what abilities he is going to demonstrate and how they can be tested in principle. If the applicant's ability is amenable to experimental verification, the Expert Council of the award offers individual regulations for a controlled experiment.
  2. Among other things, it stipulates in advance what is considered a positive and what is considered a negative outcome of the experiment. The rules of experimental verification are agreed with the applicant. If the agreed testing regulations cannot be signed for any reason, the application is canceled. If both parties have come to an agreement on the conditions of the experiment, the applicant becomes a contender for the Harry Houdini Award.
  3.  After the approval of the inspection regulations, the applicant may be asked to undergo preliminary testing so that the parties can verify the acceptability of the experimental conditions.
  4. Preliminary testing is carried out once in a place agreed by the parties and should be successful. Only after passing it, the applicant is allowed to take an official test, according to the results of which the prize is awarded. The official testing is carried out once at a place chosen by the Organizing Committee.
  5. The official testing is attended by a representative of the company "Genotek", who is the guarantor of receiving a cash prize, and has 100,000 rubles with him. If, as a result of the experiment, according to its agreed conditions, the applicant demonstrates the claimed paranormal ability, the representative of the Genotek company must immediately transfer 100,000 rubles to the winner. The rest of the premium (900,000 rubles) is paid by Genotek through the bank, within no more than ten working days from the date of passing the test. In addition, a number of procedural rules and legal guarantees are stipulated, in particular:
  1. Any correspondence regarding the application is conducted only in Russian. Any information materials of the applicant received from him during negotiations and experiments, including photographs, video and audio recordings, etc., may subsequently be used by the Organizing Committee at its discretion.
  2.  Testing is considered to have taken place provided that all experimental and registration equipment functions properly during the procedure stipulated by the regulations, as well as the normal state of health of all participants in the experiment specified by the regulations.
  3. All expenses for travel to the testing site, accommodation, meals are paid by the applicant himself.
  4.  The applicant refuses in advance to prosecute the members of the Organizing Committee and the company "Genotek" if the testing or its results cause the applicant moral, physical, material, professional or other damage.
  5. The applicant may not apply more than twice.
  6. In case of passing the test and receiving a prize, the winner can undergo a free genetic study in the company "Genotek" (reading the full genome) during the year (optional).
