See Mars and die?

Scientists: the first colonists of Mars will begin to die on the 68th day of the mission

RIA News

The first colonists who went to Mars under the Dutch Mars One project will begin to die 68 days after arrival, research by scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology – Mars One (and done?), the results of which are cited by the French edition LeMonde.

The scientists of the Institute came to this conclusion after conducting a number of analyses of scientific data, according to which the Mars exploration project is being developed.

The death of the first colonist "will occur approximately on the 68th day of the mission from asphyxia," follows from the report on the study, in which scientists used graphs and mathematical formulas to analyze the resources of oxygen, food and technologies intended for the flight.

According to scientists, plants that should provide colonists with food will produce too much oxygen, while technologies for balancing the atmosphere today are "not yet sufficiently developed."

Scientists doubt the success of the mission, noting that the settlers will eventually become more and more dependent on the supply of spare parts, the cost of which, according to the most optimistic estimates, will amount to $ 4.5 billion, and this amount will only increase as new crews are sent.

Mars One is a private project launched by the Dutchman Bass Lansdorp, who already in 2024 plans to send the first group of settlers to Mars, consisting of four volunteers who will have to make a seven–month one-way trip and begin colonizing the Red Planet.
