IG Nobel Prize 2012: Reports on reports about reports and chimpanzee asses

Yuri Mikhailov, ComputerraThe Nobel Prize is awarded for outstanding scientific research, inventions or a major contribution to the culture and development of society.

Of course, it would be boring if there were no awards besides her, the reverse of the value awarded for the most dubious achievements in these areas. It is, and is called "Ig Nobel". The other day, another presentation of it took place. Let's see for what merits the Nobelists were honored this time.

Here is the full list of winners:

Award for Achievements in psychology: Anita Ireland and Rolf Zwan from the Netherlands received it for a study on the fact that if you lean to the left, the Eiffel Tower will seem smaller.

Peace Prize: SKN (Russian, by the way) has developed a method for processing old shells into diamonds.

The award for achievements in the field of neuroscience: Craig Bennett, Abigail Baird, Michael Miller and George Walford from the USA received it for a study devoted to the fact that with the help of complex tools and statistics it is possible to detect brain activity in anything — even in a dead salmon.

Award for achievements in the field of acoustics: Kazutaka Kurihara and Koji Tsukada from Japan have created a machine that broadcasts the words just spoken through a loudspeaker to the speaker and as a result, he cannot continue the conversation, for which he got into a Snob.

It's not for nothing that they eat their bread — this is, after all, the Accounting Chamber!

Prize for Achievements in Physics: Joseph Keller (USA), Raymond Goldstein (USA/UK), Patrick Warren (UK) received the mentioned award for the study of the balance of forces that control the movement of human hair tied in a ponytail. It's not the first time, by the way, that Keller gets an IG, in 1999 he invented a non-spilling teapot.

Award for achievements in the field of hydro-gas dynamics: Ruslan Krechetnikov (Russia/USA/Canada) and Hans Mayer (USA) studied the dynamics of spilling liquids in order to understand what happens when a person walks with a cup of coffee in his hand.

The prize for achievements in the field of anatomy: Franz de Waal (Holland/USA) and Jennifer Pokorny (USA) earned it by studying how chimpanzees recognize other chimpanzees from photos, sorry, the asses of these same chimpanzees.

Award for achievements in the field of medicine: Emmanuel Ben-Soissant and Michel Antonietti from France for valuable advice on preventing the explosion of patients to doctors who do colonoscopy.
