Internet for Medicine

IRI is becoming a platform for investment and research projects in the Internet economy

The Institute for Internet Development (IRI) announced the launch of a new direction "Internet+ Investments", within which he will be engaged in investment and research projects in the Internet economy.

In particular, the IRI has started exploring the possibility of creating a system for recognizing and analyzing medical images based on neural networks and BigData. The research participants also included the Scientific and Practical Center of Medical Radiology of the Moscow Department of Health, I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University and the Federal Scientific and Clinical Center of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and Immunology named after Dmitry Rogachev. As part of the study, these medical institutions will provide access to databases of medical images of patients in a depersonalized format.Private investors – the chairman of the Board of Directors of Game Insight, the founder of an investment company - will participate in the financing of the study imi.vc Igor Matsanyuk and Alexey Basov, Vice President of Rostelecom.

"We hope that the first results of the study will be ready by the end of the year," said German Klimenko, Chairman of the IRI Council, adviser to the President of the Russian Federation (pictured). If the study shows the possibility of high-precision recognition and analysis of medical images, then the IRI, together with current and future partners, will create an appropriate artificial intelligence system.

"A computer can help a radiologist or other medical specialist analyze images, working as a primary filter that selects critical pathology. This is the second opinion that improves the doctor's diagnostic capabilities. There are a lot of issues related to the legitimization of computer diagnostics of images, but the whole world is moving in this direction," said Sergey Morozov, director of the Scientific and Practical Center for Medical Radiology.

"We are at the beginning of the road. Absolutely new opportunities are opening up for telemedicine and improving the quality of medical care. Intelligent systems will greatly facilitate the work of a doctor," said Ivan Chizh, Vice–rector of the First Moscow State Medical University.

"The potential of medicine from the point of view of a venture capitalist is huge. We have a unique opportunity to finance a promising project for the recognition of medical images at the seed stage," Igor Matsanyuk said.

"Our medicine is consistently underfunded by the "smart money" of investors who are able to revolutionize it. At the same time, neural network technologies, pattern recognition and machine learning in the next few years can fundamentally change the quality of life of all people," Alexey Basov is sure.

IRI also announced the creation, together with the National Center for Informatization (NCI, part of the Rostec State Corporation), of a working group to study the possibilities of large-scale production in the Russian Federation of wearable sensors for monitoring human health.

"Rostec has extensive experience in developing various kinds of sensors. The NCI will provide us with competencies and expertise. The project will also include a private investor who will invest up to $ 1 million – these are people from real business who are ready to participate in the creation of medical sensors," said German Klimenko.

"Medicine is one of our strategic directions. NCI experts within the framework of the IRI working group are ready to conduct an audit of the domestic medical equipment market, identify the most promising projects working on the creation of telemedicine equipment and devices, including with the possibility of remote recording and broadcasting of human physiological parameters," said Konstantin Solodukhin, Director General of the NCI.

"Moreover, there are companies in the Rostec structure that already have experience in developing telemedicine equipment. Their experience can become both an aid in the development of devices, and the basis for launching first experimental and then serial production," the head of the NCI noted.

IRI also announced the first projects on internal and external research carried out by the Institute's experts. In particular, the IRI will conduct an analytical study on the feasibility of creating a self-regulatory organization in the online retail market. The customer of the study is the Association of Internet Trade Companies (AKIT).

"The Internet Development Institute is a thousand experts from all major companies in the Internet industry. We are waiting for a conclusion from the IRI on the need to create a self-regulatory organization, its format and tasks. We are confident that the IRI is the only organization that can conduct such an important and authoritative study," said AKIT President Alexey Fedorov.

The Institute for Internet Development (IRI) is an organization created with the aim of developing the industry of modern technologies in Russia (Internet, software and media), which collects and processes statistical and analytical information, analyzes trends in the development of Internet–dependent sectors of the economy both in Russia and abroad.
