The winners of the OpenBio-2016 scientific conference in Koltsovo were named

A two-day scientific conference within the framework of OpenBio was held in the Koltsovo Science City on October 5 and 6. The representative symposium brought together young specialists under 35 years of age from fifteen regions of our country, neighboring countries.

Eminent scientists from Russia and the United States – laureate of the State Prize of the Russian Federation and the Award of the Government of the Russian Federation, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Medical Sciences Viktor Maleev with a lecture on the Ebola virus, Natalia Chernenko from the Medical College named after him. Dr. Dmitry Belik, Director of the Research Institute of Medical Engineering of NSTU, delivered a lecture on the herpes virus, with a lecture "Prospects for the use of biotechnology in the creation of medical systems."

Addressing his young colleagues, Viktor Maleev, who has been cooperating with Vector for many years, noted that he was very pleased to visit OpenBio: "I worked as a chief infectious disease specialist for many years, and we are consumers of the achievements that you are working on – these are new drugs, vaccines. It is very nice that young people are doing this, we will be happy to use these achievements at the central Institute of Epidemiology."

According to the press service of the Koltsovo Innovation Center, by the end of the second day, the names of OpenBio winners were announced in three sections - three scientists in each. In addition, promising biotechnologists, molecular biologists and virologists were noted in the special nomination "On the way to future prospects".

The winner in the section "Biotechnology" was Ekaterina Volosnikova, the State Scientific Center of Virology and Biotechnology "Vector". Lyubov Yarinich, Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology SB RAS, received the award for the second place, Daniil Shanshin, SRC of the World Bank "Vector" received the third place. In the nomination "On the way to future prospects", Boris Malyshev, SSC World Bank "Vector" was singled out.

In the "Molecular Biology" section, Anna Bondar, Institute of Chemical Biology and Fundamental Medicine was named the winner of the section, Mikhail Kartashov, SSC World Bank Vector, took the second place, Daria Chernikova, Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology SB RAS, took the third. Alexandra Rak, Research Institute of Ultra-Pure Biologics of the FMBA of Russia, Saint Petersburg, won in the special nomination.

Svetlana Sviatchenko, representing the Vector World Research Center, won in the Virology section, another Vector scientist Semyon Maltsev was awarded for the second place, and Andrey Koltsov, All–Russian Research Institute of Veterinary Virology and Microbiology of the Russian Agricultural Academy, Moscow, was awarded for the third place. Olga Bokova, Institute of Chemical Biology and Fundamental Medicine SB RAS, was the closest "On the way to future prospects" in this section.

– The Koltsovo science city is one of the pride of the Novosibirsk Region, – Olesya Orlova, Deputy Minister of Science, Education and Innovation Policy of the National Academy of Sciences, summed up at the end of the conference. – It is very pleasant that the achievements of Novosibirsk innovators are becoming the subject of close attention of scientists from all over Russia and even abroad who are engaged in virology and biotechnology.
