MSU Interfacult Project: Human Institute
The Institute of Man is rather a virtual education, an intellectual club that will unite the efforts of all faculties of Moscow State University, directly or indirectly studying man.
13.04.2009The Institute of Man is rather a virtual education, an intellectual club that will unite the efforts of all faculties of Moscow State University, directly or indirectly studying man.
13.04.2009Experts started talking about the possible existence of a shadow market for human organ trafficking in Ukraine in 2006, when the number of kidney transplant operations almost doubled. This is evidenced by the data of the Coordination Center of Transplantology of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. Doctors explain: they say, relatives have become more likely to donate their organs. However, experts insist: the market of commercial donors is flourishing in our country.
13.04.2009The Russian biotechnological innovation company "Eurogen" sells its technologies and products all over the world. Lukyanov is convinced that his company, armed with modern devices, would have a real chance to make a revolution in biomedicine and take a leading position in the development of new approaches to the treatment of oncological and autoimmune diseases. He knows other companies that could "jerk" if not for financial constraints.
13.04.2009Carried out at the stage of embryonic development and repeated karyotypic analysis conducted after childbirth did not reveal any abnormalities in the structure of any of the 46 chromosomes, the list of which ended with an XY pair. But there was clearly a girl in front of the doctors.
13.04.2009Researchers from the Chinese Jiaotong University managed to find diploid stem cells in adult ovaries that can form oocytes, and even get healthy mice from these eggs.
13.04.2009Devices that would be able to separate nanoparticles and even individual molecules by size have been created over the past few years. An easy-to-manufacture device for size separation of nanoparticles and large biomolecules suspended in a liquid was created by specialists from the National Institute of Standards and Technology and Cornell University
10.04.2009This is a powerful impetus to the development of numerous projects dedicated to the role of brown adipose tissue in the prevention of obesity and the following metabolic syndrome. These studies cannot be called unpromising: unlike the more common counterpart, which is deposited under the skin, in the omentums and capsules of internal organs, brown fat instead of storing energy burns it in large quantities, releasing heat.
10.04.2009Running slows down aging, and even those who run a little, but regularly, can significantly prolong their active life.
10.04.2009In his report "Nanotechnology: Innovations at the point of contact between government and business", the CEO of RUSNANO called on Germany to cooperate with Russia, calling the possibilities of such cooperation unique.
10.04.2009Natural selection in some populations and entire nations, for example, by hereditary propensity to a certain type of diet or by IQ, is a proven fact. The evolution of man did not stop with the emergence of civilization. Perhaps it has even accelerated and is in full swing now.
10.04.2009Scientists have used a "killer gene" that is embedded in a cancer cell and turns the usual antiviral drug ganciclovir into a poison that is fatal to this cell. Ganciclovir can also be injected into the body in tablets or as an injection. The main thing is that the gene is like a virus: it is able to infect neighboring tumor cells without touching the usual ones.
10.04.2009From March 16 to March 20, 2009, the Fifth Moscow International Congress "Biotechnology: State and Prospects of Development" and the VII International Specialized Exhibition "World of Biotechnology' 2009" were held in Moscow.
10.04.2009State medicine is turning into a "lazy monopoly", which even the care of some consumers does not force to change. The more doctors and places in hospitals in the region, the worse the health of the population. The state is going to pay not for the maintenance of beds, but for services performed within the framework of the compulsory health insurance system. But even this will not create incentives to improve the quality of patient care.
09.04.2009The analysis was carried out only in those areas of life sciences, the results of which have a pronounced applied value: bioinformatic, biocatalytic, biosynthetic and biosensory technologies, biomedical and veterinary technologies for life support and protection of humans and animals, genomic and postgenomic technologies for the creation of medicines, cellular technologies, bioengineering technologies, technologies for the creation of biocompatible materials.
09.04.2009About the development of methods for detecting gene doping – drugs that are not yet used as doping, but may be used in this capacity in the near future, and FAQ about doping in general.
08.04.2009The familiar term "healthy lifestyle" has appeared quite recently. Unfortunately, where it was invented – in Russia – the majority of the population does less to preserve their health than residents of countries with a much longer life expectancy.
08.04.2009If the genome of the papilloma virus is embedded in the cell chromosome, then in the presence of predisposing factors, the virus begins to multiply. The affected area turns into a papilloma, or wart. And if the virus belongs to a special subtype, then in ten years the affected cells may transform into a cancerous tumor.
08.04.2009The bones of mice lacking the CCR2 receptor are 40% less porous than those of "non-defective" mice, which leads to a 47% increase in strength. Moreover, this is achieved precisely by slowing down the work of osteoclasts, and not by accelerating the synthesis of new tissue. The near future will show whether this phenomenon will become the basis for the development of a new method of treating osteoporosis and preventing fractures.
08.04.2009The result of the work were two patented nanoantibodies. We continue to work — we want to further increase the activity of the obtained nanoantibodies: we optimize their structure, try to obtain their derivatives, try to improve the binding properties and effectiveness of action. We hope to approach and maybe surpass Avastin in terms of efficiency.
08.04.2009The development of nanomedicine is closely connected with the revolutionary achievements of genomics and proteomics, which allowed scientists to get closer to understanding the molecular foundations of diseases. There are 5 main areas of application of nanotechnology in medicine: delivery of active drugs, new methods and means of treatment at the nanometer level, in vivo diagnostics, in vitro diagnostics, medical implants.
