"Neurochat" entered Russian clinics

The device "Neurochat" for communication using the power of thought, created by Russian developers, has been put into mass production, said Natalia Galkina, CEO and leader of the project.
Earlier it was reported that the invention will allow typing texts on a computer with the effort of thought. It can help patients with stroke, cerebral palsy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and multiple sclerosis to communicate with other people.
According to RIA Novosti, the first experimental batch amounted to several hundred devices, it was sent for test testing to Russian rehabilitation centers.
The cost of the device is 120 thousand rubles, but now work is underway to ensure that patients with serious speech disorders can receive compensation from the budget for it. Galkina also stressed that the device consists of 85 percent of Russian components.
Neurochat is one of the first projects to receive funding under the National Technology Initiative. The device is a hardware and software complex, a neural headset and a special interface.
A wireless headset with electrodes is located on the patient's head. The patient can type text, concentrating on the intended letter of the alphabetic matrix on the monitor screen. The terminal is offered to be placed on a bed or wheelchair.
The communication system allows people to communicate with people who do not have the ability to speak and move today, patients with such diagnoses as cerebral palsy, ALS, stroke, multiple sclerosis and various neurotrauma (TBI, spinal injuries and others). They can communicate with family, medical staff, friends and the whole world.
The device allows you to type text on a computer screen without using speech or movement. The user, concentrating on the desired letter or symbol on the virtual keyboard, makes a "mental choice" of the object. So, letter by letter or by choosing ready-made words on the screen, a person can type both short messages and whole sentences.
"Neurochat" was created not only for communication with the immediate environment, the purpose of the system is to enable broad communication on the Internet. To do this, the developers connected him to the VKontakte social network, gave him the opportunity to correspond via SMS and are working on adding other social networks and messengers.
In addition to online communication, Neurochat allows you to use other Internet services that have been integrated into the system. Already now users can read thematic news blocks (sports, politics, culture, etc.), watch videos, keep notes, diary.
The creators of the system are working on connecting the capabilities of controlling external devices with the power of thought, for example, managing a Smart Home, etc. In 2018, the RusBase resource named NeuroChat among the five most interesting biotech startups that "managed to succeed in new areas over the past 4 years."
