Scientists have figured out how to quickly remove fat anywhere in the body

In recent years, cryolipolysis, a cosmetic procedure for removing excess fat by exposure to cold, has become increasingly popular. Researchers from Massachusetts General Hospital, whose work is described in the press release ‘Coolsculpting’ inventors develop a new non-surgical method for targeting fat, have improved the technique, making it faster and more versatile.

Article by Garibyan et al. Subcutaneous Fat Reduction with Injected Ice Slurry is published in the journal Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery – VM.

Now, when undergoing cryolipolysis, the patient has to sit motionless for a long time so that the adipose tissues have time to cool down. In addition, the technique is suitable only for removing fat lying shallow near the surface of the body.

The new method lacks these disadvantages. It is based on the injection of a chilled mixture of saline and glycerin containing from 20 to 40% of the smallest ice particles. In response to this, fat cells crystallize, die and are excreted from the body within a few weeks.

Experiments with pigs have confirmed that the new approach reduces the thickness of fat deposits by 55%. No side effects or damage to the skin and muscles were observed.

The main advantage of "ice injections" is that they can be used to remove adipose tissue at any point of the body where you can reach with a needle or catheter. The procedure will take only a minute, after which the patient will be sent home.

The technique has not yet been approved for use on humans. However, when this happens, it can become the main technology of figure correction and one of the most effective procedures in cosmetology.
