Home health and heredity tests are becoming increasingly popular. One of them is a Snapshot blood test kit to assess liver health and vitamin, lipid and iron levels.

To find out your indicators using a Snapshot, it is enough to collect about 10 drops of blood in a test tube and send them to the company. A PDF file with the results will come in three days, and will contain not only figures, but also explanations from the doctor.

Test Snapshot, the second product of DNAfit, was decided by Engadget journalist Daniel Cooper. According to Cooper, two years ago he had already used the previous DNAfit genetic test. Then the results indicated an increased risk of cancer and celiac disease, which forced the journalist to change his diet. In addition, he adjusted physical activity.

A new test showed that most of Daniel's indicators are normal.

At the same time, the cholesterol level was higher than normal, and the vitamin D content was lower. According to the doctor who wrote the recommendations for the journalist, this indicates the need to take more care of the heart and take dietary supplements.

The most alarming indicator for Daniel was an increased ALT (alanine aminotransferase). This enzyme penetrates into the blood when liver cells are damaged and die.

An increase in ALT concentration may indicate hepatitis, cirrhosis, mononucleosis or cancer. The journalist has already made an appointment with a doctor to discuss the test results, and is going to "start a new life" in 2019.

DNAfit believes that about a third of the company's current customers will use the new test. Snapshot is already available in the UK for ₤64 (about $80) and should soon enter the American market. In the future, the company intends to expand the range of products – for example, to create a genetic test to select the optimal diet.

According to a study by Stanford scientists, the information obtained from genetic tests has enormous power over people. For example, knowledge about genetic risks changed the rates of assimilation of food and exercise in a group of subjects. Moreover, the effect was both positive and negative.
