Outpatient Exorehabilitation

Home rehabilitation using exoskeletons

XX2 century

The portfolio company of the RVC Biofund "ExoAtlet" has launched pilot projects of home exorehabilitation – the company's products, ExoAtlet I and ExoAtlet Bambini exoskeletons, had the first private buyers who started training right at home.

Exoskeletons are applicable in rehabilitation programs when working with such diagnoses as spinal cord injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, diseases associated with impaired cerebral circulation, diseases of the musculoskeletal system.

One of the first owners of the exoskeleton was a sixteen-year-old from St. Petersburg, Valentin, diagnosed with cerebral palsy.

"Valentin underwent exorehabilitation in one of the clinics with "ExoAthlete", he really liked the results achieved. He caught fire with the idea to continue training and, with the support of sponsors, recently purchased an exoskeleton. Now he has the opportunity to train at home every day. Valentine was the first, but now he is no longer the only one. Since the beginning of this year, we have been actively developing the direction of home exorehabilitation, and we already have guys who are involved in this project, buying exoskeletons for home rehabilitation," says Ekaterina Bereziy, co-founder of the ExoaThlet company.

"Home Exorehabilitation" is important from the point of view of increasing tolerance to physical exertion and improving the quality of life, it is very important that patients, when discharged from the clinic, do not interrupt the rehabilitation process, ultimately this leads to a significant improvement in their condition.

"Our mission is to create real opportunities for the recovery of those who dream about it. To do this, we design and manufacture exoskeletons, create rehabilitation techniques, change generally accepted but outdated approaches, create new standards and formats. The opportunity to purchase exoskeletons for individuals for home use, which opened in 2021, is the first step in the development of outpatient exorehabilitation.

While this is obviously not a solution for everyone. But at all times, the creators of new trends were either wealthy people who were not ready to wait, or pioneers desperately burning with the idea, igniting the hearts of sponsors. It is thanks to them that innovations eventually turn into standards and reach a wide range of users," adds Ekaterina.

Exoskeletons are applicable in rehabilitation programs when working with such diagnoses as spinal cord injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, diseases associated with impaired cerebral circulation, diseases of the musculoskeletal system. In 2021, the ExoAtlet II exoskeleton and the ExoAtlet Bambini exoskeleton for children and adolescents successfully passed medical certification on the Russian market. In addition, in accordance with the recently approved standard of equipment for specialized medical institutions, exoskeletons are now included in the mandatory list of equipment for rehabilitation departments of clinics.
