Interesting information appeared recently on the Web (Dave Smith, Business Insider: This insane device promises to give you perfect vision for the rest of your life). The head of Ocumetics Technology, Dr. Garth Webb, announced that his company managed to create a bionic lens that solves problems with visual acuity once and for all. So, this lens can not only improve visual acuity, but also forget about the existence of glasses or contact lenses. 

The lens itself is called Ocumetics Bionic Lens, and its development was carried out for about eight years. The total cost of the project is $3 million. In order to use such a lens, a simple operation is needed, the duration of which is only 8 minutes. The operation consists in inserting a bionic lens into the eye with a syringe with ordinary saline. This operation is very similar to the procedure for removing cataracts. 

In this case, the lens is removed, it is replaced by a lens. Ocumetics Bionic Lens is introduced in folded form, and after being inserted into the eye, the lens straightens out, taking its intended place in the eyeball. Immediately after that, a person can feel all the benefits of acute vision. According to the developers, vision is corrected once and for all, without deteriorating over time. Unfortunately, the developers do not report details of the operation of the entire system, but they claim that after the introduction of the lens, the eye does not undergo any changes. 

Ocumetics Bionic Lens has a number of advantages. For example, a person with such a lens will never get a cataract. In addition, the operation of inserting a lens into the eye is much safer than correcting vision with a laser. 

Now the company plans to conduct a number of clinical trials, which will be accompanied by the help of several outstanding ophthalmologists. Most likely, the commercial implementation of the technology will be implemented already in 2017. Ocumetics Bionic Lens has only one limitation – it is possible to introduce the lens only to people over 25 years old, because up to this age the eyes continue to change.
