Recharge your brain

A fail-safe way to improve brain function has been revealed

Scientists from Boston University in the USA have found out that artificial synchronization of various brain regions, done with the help of transcranial stimulation, allows you to learn more successfully and perform a number of tasks. Robert M. G. Reinhart's article Disruption and rescue of interareal theta phase coupling and adaptive behavior is published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. This is reported by the publication Science Alert (Hacking Brain Waves Can Give You an Instant Cognitive Boost, Says Study).

30 volunteers took part in the experiments, on which the effect of transcranial (non-invasive) stimulation with high-resolution alternating current (HD-TACs) was tested. At the same time, the medial prefrontal cortex and the lateral prefrontal cortex of the large hemispheres, which are involved in the decision-making process and error control, were affected.

The subjects had to press the button after every 1.7 seconds, while they received a signal that informed whether they missed the pressing time or not.

It turned out that if HD-TACs synchronized two brain regions, the volunteers learned to complete the task faster and made fewer mistakes. Although the participants in the experiment did not notice any improvements, the difference was statistically significant. At the same time, stimulation of the right hemisphere gave a greater effect than the left.
