What does DNA look like

What does DNA actually look like and how is it packed inside cells?

Mikhail Romkin, Naked Science

School biology textbooks are full of DNA drawings. Each of us has most likely seen them and can imagine what DNA is like. However, none of these images demonstrate what DNA molecules actually look like. All these drawings are good models that give an idea of the basic principles of DNA, but inside cells everything is much more interesting.

Why don't textbooks show real DNA photos? The fact is that it can't just be photographed or seen with a conventional microscope – the DNA is too small.

How do we know what a DNA double helix looks like, then? You will find the answers to all these questions in a new video in which we will tell you about what DNA actually looks like and how it is packed inside cells.
