The Moscow EMC Research and Development Center for Cloud Computing and Big Data, together with two clusters of the Skolkovo Foundation – information and Biomedical technologies – summed up the results of the OMICS 2015 competition – "Big Data in Biomedicine".

The jury, consisting of leading experts in the field of bioinformatics, selected the best projects in the field of biomedicine related to the analysis and processing of big data.

Of the twenty finalists, five projects were recognized as winners, which will receive mini-grants in the amount of 5 million rubles from the Skolkovo Foundation. These are the companies ImmunoCloud (cloud service of immunomic data), iBinom (analysis of genomes and exomes in the cloud), <url> (full-genomic walking passways for detecting prognostic biomarkers of rectal cancer), Brain Target (software for accompanying neurosurgical operations) and scientists Evgeny Imyanitov and Dmitry Frishman (search for biallel mutations predisposing to breast cancer, in the Slavic population).

In a special nomination of EMC Corporation, the winner was the Digital Medicine company with the project Chance2live, which was invited to participate in the final of the international WebReady competition.

In addition, all winners will be able to count on mentoring and consulting support, assistance in finding investors, their projects will be seen by other industrial partners of the IT and biomedical clusters of the Skolkovo Foundation.

The results of the competition "Big Data in Biomedicine" were announced as part of the Moscow Conference on Computational Molecular Biology (MCCMB 2015), organized by Mikhail Gelfand, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor of the Faculty of Bioengineering and Bioinformatics of Lomonosov Moscow State University.

Kamil Isaev, Vice President of EMC, General Director of the Moscow Center for Research and Development of EMC for Cloud Computing and Big Data:
"Over the decade that has passed since the decoding of the human genome, scientists have accumulated a huge amount of information that can be used in clinical practice. In this regard, the role of IT specialists who can offer tools for working with the received data has significantly increased. We are glad that our joint initiative with the Skolkovo Foundation has attracted so many interesting and promising projects, and we are confident that the solutions proposed by the participants will play an important role in biomedical research."

Yuri Nikolsky, Director of Science of the Biomedical Technologies Cluster of the Skolkovo Foundation:
"OMICS 2015 is our first competition in bioinformatics and Big Data, and we did not expect such a large number of applications and a variety of projects. The great interest in the competition is very pleasing, since bioinformatics and computational biology are among the most popular areas of biomedicine and are traditionally strong in Russia. We hope for the scientific and commercial success of the winning teams."

Ivan Kireev, Director of Development and Work with Partners of the Skolkovo Foundation:
"EMC, one of the world's leading developers and suppliers of technologies and solutions for information infrastructures, has been a key partner of the Fund since February 2012. During all this time, EMC has been actively involved in the development and support of innovative Skolkovo projects. The current competition is one of the many examples of our cooperation. The subject of the contest is extremely relevant. Combining biomedical and information solutions is a new stage and a major direction in the development of modern technologies. The future lies in the synergy of different scientific fields. Cooperation between the Foundation and EMC will allow Russian developers to reach a new level of technological development."
