Different views on immortality in the Geek Picnic Lecture – 2019
This year, the largest openair science and technology Geek Picnic will be held on Vorobyovy Gory on July 13 and 14. This year's theme is "Live Forever" / Immortality. One of the important directions of the large–scale program of the festival will be a Campus lecture hall, where leading Russian and foreign scientists will speak, as well as an exposition of the latest scientific achievements will be presented.
(Im)mortal is a special area of the educational section where you can see an exhibition of exoskeletons, modern devices for training young doctors and photo works about the microcosm. Modern experiments in chemistry, physics and biology will also be demonstrated here. A series of lectures on immortality technologies, human modifications, genetic engineering and cloning will also be given in the (Im)mortal zone. What happens after death, and is it possible to prolong life with the help of biohacking? What is aging? What will a person become under the influence of technology, and will they help healthy longevity? Which developments make sense to invest in, and which ones are better to avoid?
The most urgent problems of neurophysiology and cognitive sciences will be reflected in the thematic block Neuro Spot. In turn, at the Post Mortem platform, the Evolution Foundation will present a skeptical point of view on the prolongation of life, as well as scientific approaches to the study of death and immortality: from the standpoint of biology, psychology, anthropology and cultural studies.
In the Artificial Intelligence block, visitors will learn news from the world of neural networks and artificial intelligence, which today determines not only our everyday life, but also the vectors of the development of science and culture. Specialists working at this site will demonstrate the features of emotion recognition programs.
It will be possible to immerse yourself in topical issues of ecology, the environment and urbanism at the Habitat site. Experts will explain what the eco-industry is, why street art is painted over, what modern megacities and medieval cities have in common, how and why to grow tomatoes in the center of Moscow and will finally help to make a choice between a plastic and canvas bag.
In the era of rapid technological progress, humanity has to adapt quickly to new realities: not only everyday life and everyday life are changing, but also social relations and norms. About the new ethics in the new conditions – in a special Ethics block.
The topic of space is experiencing a new wave of interest in itself today. The organizers of the festival could not bypass it either. The Outer Space lecture series will tell about new space professions, space in art, exploration of the Universe, exploration of the Moon and much more. In addition to public performances, an exposition from the Cosmonautics Museum will be presented here, space quizzes and competitions will be held.
And finally, GameDev is a platform where everyone knows about the development of games on different platforms, the latest technologies and trends in the industry market both in Russia and in the global community.

Guests from all over Russia and abroad come to GeekPicnic. More than 100 thousand people visited GeekPicnic in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Krasnodar in 2018. The mission of the festival is to surprise and inspire. GeekPicnic allows everyone to fall in love with the wonderful world of technology and science. The organizers want to build a global festival of the future that will attract active citizens and guests from all over the world.
The festival will be held for the ninth time. For the first time GeekPicnic took place in 2011 in St. Petersburg. Since 2016, the event has been held in both capitals. In 2018, the number of visitors exceeded 100 thousand people.
