On titanium paws

Novosibirsk scientists for the first time in the world installed prosthetics for a dog instead of all paws

The world's first dog with prosthetics instead of four paws was discharged from the Novosibirsk clinic. A unique operation was performed by Siberian scientists. They installed prostheses made of titanium, nickel and vanadium alloy for Monica. A mongrel with severed paws was found in winter in the village of Plastunovskaya of the Krasnodar Territory. Monica spent more than 10 days in intensive care, after which it became clear that she would not be able to move on her stumps. Most often in such cases, animals are euthanized, but animal rights activists Marina Gapich and Alla Leonkina decided to give Monica a chance. They contacted scientists from Tomsk Polytechnic University and Novosibirsk veterinarians who successfully implanted titanium implants in two cats a few years ago.

Veterinarian Sergey Gorshkov, who performed the operation, explained: "No one has performed such prosthetics before. Tomography showed that the bones of the animal are deformed very much. Plus, the dog's weight is significantly more than that of a cat. But we decided to take a chance."

Monica spent more than six months in the clinic – the first operation was unsuccessful due to tomography errors. "Now she [Monica] is jokingly called the first robops in the world in social networks. Sergey Sergeevich is a real wizard! What he brought to life is incredible and priceless!" – said Marina Gapich.

Monica's story interested British animal rights activist Casey Carlin, who decided to take the dog for herself. On March 9, Monica will fly to London to meet with the hostess.

Veterinarian Sergey Gorshkov recently operated on another dog without paws and tail. Omsk mongrel Trudy was fitted with three titanium prostheses.
