The mask of the future cleanses the air from pathogens and solid particles

Although the prototype resembles an item from a science fiction movie, the developers are convinced that the COVID-19 pandemic and the current environmental situation have determined the long-term demand for such products. The mask has a multi-stage air purification system, and it can work for days without replacing any parts.

Engineers from Biotlab have presented an Air-Ring mask that provides a person with fresh filtered air, according to a press release from Air-Ring Wearable Air Purifier. The wearable device consists of a variety of filters to purify the air supplied to the nose not only from pathogens, but also from solid particles.

While the battery lasts for eight hours, however, the mask can work continuously if you connect it to the power supply, the authors explain. The Air-Ring is easy to put on and take off, and two face-framing handles adjust its height.

The air enters the Air-Ring via a fan at the back of the device, which then passes through foam and HEPA filters, UV cleaning and photocatalytic sterilizers, and finally through a final block of several carbon filters. Only after that the air is supplied to the nose and mouth.

For the convenience of the wearer, there are several shapes and sizes of the front of the mask, including a protective screen for the entire face.

In addition to the futuristic mask, the developers also presented the concept of a full-size "hood" that covers the entire head and face of a person. In their opinion, such a method of protection will be in demand in places with the highest air pollution index.

Currently, Biotlab is preparing for a crowdfunding company, after which potential buyers will find out the estimated prices and release dates of the Air-Ring.
