Robot Examiner

Promobot presented a robot double that will take exams from students

The Russian company "Promobot" and Perm State Medical University named after Academician E.A. Wagner developed an autonomous humanoid robot simulator for students. The robot was publicly presented on January 16 at the exhibition "Education and Career" in Perm.

The robot is a completely anthropomorphic machine. He copies human emotions: he can move his eyes, eyebrows, lips and other "muscles", communicate and answer questions. The technology developed at Promobot, as well as its own patented design, allows you to reproduce more than 600 variants of human micromimics. Promobot specialists also used their technology to create artificial leather.

A robot simulator simulates the behavior of a patient at a doctor's appointment. Previously, this was done by a person. University specialists have prepared several scenarios of robot behavior – with a detailed description of complaints, conditions, patient age, test data and other criteria. The future doctor should conduct an initial survey, make a diagnosis, prescribe treatment or send for further examination and tests. The robot reacts to the student's keywords and actions, imitating the dialogue between the patient and the doctor.

"The development of modern healthcare involves the introduction of new forms and formats of training, and given the social significance of the field of training future doctors, the quality of medical education becomes one of the key criteria in development. Today, simulation equipment is actively used in the training of medical students at PSMU. All graduates pass the accreditation procedure for admission to work by performing manipulations on mannequins. The new robot allows you not just to create a simulation as close as possible to the real one, but gives you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the situation and thereby form the clinical thinking of the future doctor, in accordance with the chosen specialty. Playing the role of a patient, the robot acts as a virtual teacher, controlling every word and action of the student, and transmits all information electronically to a real teacher. The introduction of such solutions will allow us to reach a new level in medical education," Andrey Baydarov, Vice–Rector for IT and Innovative Development of the Wagner State Medical University.

At the end of the session, the robot summarizes the results of the reception. The droid analyzes the sequence of questions of the future doctor according to clinical recommendations and evaluates how accurately the diagnosis is made and treatment is prescribed. The robot also saves every action and question of the user – students can always work on mistakes to correct them in the future. The results obtained and the admission history are sent to the teacher, who studies the student's actions, decides on the assessment or asks additional questions to the student.

"A robot simulator is a universal solution. With its help, you can prepare for any exams or train interaction with people in any field. The human resource is limited, and you can work with a robot 24 hours a day – it will not get tired, it will not make mistakes, neither mood nor fatigue will affect its assessment of your knowledge – in short, it excludes the human factor and evaluates knowledge as objectively as possible. Teachers will be able to evaluate students' creativity, non-standard thinking, and approach to work. In medicine, the correct sequence – the so–called "clinical thinking", when the doctor asks leading questions based on the patient's answer - allows you to make a diagnosis and choose treatment tactics. And this is a job for a robot," Oleg Kivokurtsev, Promobot Development Director.

The company "Promobot" was founded in 2015 in Perm. Since the same year, he has been a resident of Skolkovo. Today Promobot is the largest manufacturer of autonomous service robots in Russia, Northern and Eastern Europe. Promobots work in 37 countries of the world as administrators, promoters, consultants, guides and concierges, replacing or supplementing "live" employees. Promobot robots can be found in Sberbank, the Museum of Modern History of Russia, MFC, Baltimore-Washington Airport, Dubai Mall. All the company's products are manufactured and developed in Russia.
