St. Petersburg State University scientists will help children with endocrine diseases

On July 28, St. Petersburg State University will host a traditional meeting of scientists and journalists in the format of a Science lunch. St. Petersburg State University geneticists and experts in the field of endocrinology will talk about the charity program to help children with diseases of the endocrine system "Alpha-Endo", which will be implemented in the North-Western Federal District.

The leading specialists of St. Petersburg on the modern equipment of the Biobank of St. Petersburg State University will conduct free examinations of children with suspected endocrine diseases within the framework of the charity program "Alpha-Endo", which is carried out in partnership with the Endocrinological Research Center of the Ministry of Health of Russia with the financial support of Alfa Group. The total amount of funding for this area of the program in the North-Western Federal District exceeded 20 million rubles. These funds are used to purchase equipment, consumables, finance the work of staff and the delivery of blood samples of children for research.

Endocrinologists participating in the program will diagnose and advise patients. This service will be free for patients.

Molecular genetic diagnostics of blood is the most modern method of early diagnosis of diseases. This examination allows you to consult a family about the risk of hereditary diseases in children, predict diseases and their course with high accuracy, clarify the diagnosis and adjust treatment. Such diagnostic techniques bring modern medicine to a qualitatively new level and help to determine a personalized approach to the treatment of each patient.

Children with such diseases as congenital hypothyroidism, adrenogenital syndrome, hypopituitarism, diabetes mellitus and congenital hyperinsulinism, hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, adrenal insufficiency, disorders of sex formation and endocrine tumors will be able to undergo the examination.

The participants of the program are children under the age of 18 living in St. Petersburg, Leningrad Region and other subjects of the North-Western region of Russia. The collection of material for the survey started on June 15.

Today, there are already more than 140 samples of biological materials in the Biobank of St. Petersburg State University.
