A doctor has cited cold as the cause of muscle and joint pain

Irina Baranova, candidate of medical sciences, therapist, explained why sometimes a person can get sick because of a long stay in the cold.

"An interesting question: why, if you stay in the cold for a long time and freeze, you can get sick? One gets sick because of viruses or bacteria." In this matter, according to the medic, the level of hardening of a person and his general state of health, as well as the presence of deficiencies, are of great importance.

Baranova explained that prolonged hypothermia can weaken the immune system, making the body more vulnerable to infections and inflammation.

When hypothermia occurs, the body reacts by constricting blood vessels to keep warm, she said. The cold can irritate nerve receptors in the skin, muscles and joints, causing a sensation of pain. In addition, hypothermia can cause increased activity of inflammatory mediators, which can also cause muscle and joint pain.

"It is important to note that hypothermia can lead to a serious condition called frostbite, which requires immediate medical attention," emphasized the medic.
