A doctor explained how to reduce the harmful effects of gadgets on a child's vision

Gadgets have an impact on a child's vision, increasing the risk of myopia, astigmatism and other refractive anomalies. However, the mode of their use is more harmful, said ophthalmologist Darya Baryshnikova.

She explained that for children's eyes is harmful to prolonged focus on the screen, poor lighting, rare blinking, which leads to drying of the sclera, as well as improper holding of the device. Because of this, the child may experience headaches, eye fatigue, as well as itching or burning.

To minimize the negative impact of gadgets on the vision of children, the doctor recommended following a few simple rules. Thus, during the day, the time spent with a smartphone or tablet should not exceed two hours. At the same time, every 20 minutes it is necessary to take a 20-second break and look at objects located at a distance of at least 5-6 meters. Good lighting will help to avoid eye strain. At the same time, the device itself should be at eye level or slightly lower and at arm's length.

"Implementation of simple rules and recommendations in everyday life will help to protect the vision of our children and ensure them a healthy future in a world where gadgets will continue to play a significant role," Baryshnikova emphasized.

In addition, she pointed out that device manufacturers today also care about people's eyesight and introduce features aimed at reducing harmful effects. These include filters to block blue light, reminders to take breaks, and applications that control the time of device use.
