Hopkins gets $30 million to study personalized cancer medicine

Representatives of the Johns Hopkins and Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center announced the opening of a new Center for Personalized Medicine (Center for Personalized Cancer Medicine), which will develop cancer treatment methods. The project was sponsored by the Commonwealth Foundation for Cancer Research, which provided $30 million. US dollars for the needs of the center.

These funds are planned to be spent on studying the genetic characteristics of patients that determine their sensitivity to one or another antitumor therapy, and thus individualize treatment. According to Ronald Daniels, President of Johns Hopkins University, personalized medicine is a promising approach in the treatment of oncological pathology.

Previously, the Foundation has already donated $ 40 million to fund the Hopkins and Kimmel Center, in particular research on the development of a vaccine for the treatment of pancreatic, breast and other cancers.
