According to the report of the Association of Researchers and Manufacturers of Pharmaceutical Products of the USA (Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America), at the development stage, American pharmaceutical companies have 907 drugs and vaccines for the treatment of more than 100 diseases. These drug candidates are undergoing clinical trials or are under review by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Of these, 338 are intended for the treatment of oncological diseases, including leukemia and lymphoma, of which 170 drug candidates belong to the class of monoclonal antibodies. In addition, 176 candidates for drugs for the treatment of infectious diseases (including 134 vaccines), 71 for the treatment of autoimmune diseases (including systemic lupus erythematosus, multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis), 58 for the treatment of diseases of the cardiovascular system (such as congestive heart failure, stroke) are being investigated. Other developments include candidates for drugs for the treatment of diabetes mellitus, gastrointestinal pathology, genetic, neurological and respiratory diseases.

Researchers pay special attention to monoclonal antibodies used in biochemistry, molecular biology and medicine. Candidates for drugs that contain monoclonal antibodies to the proinflammatory cytokines IL-13, IL-17, IL-6 can reduce the risk of developing bronchial asthma and other respiratory diseases, as well as be used for the treatment of psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis.
