A dead pit bull is being cloned in Korea

The South Korean firm RNL Bio received an unusual order from Vernon Mckerney, a woman with disabilities living in the US state of California, to clone her dead pit bull.

The contract to fulfill the first order in the world for cloning a dead dog was also signed by a special research center of Seoul National University, which studies the problems of animal cloning and is engaged in stem cell research.

A woman lost her arm when she was attacked and bitten by a dog, and it was her four-legged friend who saved the woman, repelling the attack and preventing new damage. After the pit bull died of old age, the grateful hostess preserved his somatic cells and began searching for a company capable of "reviving" the pet. The value of the transaction, which should be completed by February 2009, is 150 thousand dollars, ITAR-TASS reports.
