According to preliminary data, the Ebola vaccine is safe

Ebola vaccine trial on volunteers revealed no adverse reaction

RIA NewsTesting of the Ebola vaccine in humans did not reveal side effects in the bodies of volunteers, reports Reuters with reference to the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID)

USA Anthony Fosi.

As Anthony Fosi said, GlaxoSmithKline's vaccine trials began in the United States on September 2. Since then, the drug has been tested on 10 healthy volunteers. According to the head of NIAID, to date, no "danger signs" have been identified that would be expressed in adverse reactions in the bodies of volunteers.

It is reported that in the next few days, a trial drug for Ebola will be tested on 10 more people. It is expected that the final conclusions on the possibility of mass use of the vaccine will be received by the end of the year. The drug from GlaxoSmithKline does not contain the virus itself, but only one of its genes. The main task of scientists is not only to determine whether the drug is capable of causing side effects, but also to study the possibility of the drug to reproduce protective antibodies against Ebola in the body.

Earlier it was reported that the trial of the GlaxoSmithKline Ebola vaccine on monkeys showed good results, but the drug needs improvement. Monkeys who were vaccinated received immunity from Ebola for a period of five weeks, and partial immunity to the virus remained in primates for up to 10 months. Earlier it became known that trials of various Ebola vaccines on humans will begin in September, and volunteers from the United States, Great Britain, Gambia, Mali and possibly Nigeria should take part in them.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the two most promising drugs for Ebola are VSV-EBO and ChAd-EBO, based on the vesicular stomatitis virus, in which the gene of Ebola and chimpanzee adenovirus is embedded.

According to WHO, at least 2.5 thousand people have become victims of Ebola in West Africa, 5 thousand people have become infected.
