Biomedical technologies in Nizhny Novgorod

The Institute of Biomedical Technologies will be established in Nizhny Novgorod

The establishment of the Institute of Biomedical Technologies (IBT) will be the result of the reorganization of the Laboratory of Fluorescent Bioimaging of NizhGMA, created as part of the implementation of the megagrant of the Government of the Russian Federation in 2010-2012.

The corresponding initiative received the unanimous support of the members of the Academic Council of the Academy on January 25, 2013.

Earlier it was reported that NizhGMA became the only medical university in Russia, which extended the validity of the megagrant of the Government of the Russian Federation.

The staff of the Institute of Biomedical Technologies will continue previously initiated research on the treatment of oncological diseases with the help of protein photosensitizers, and will also engage in completely new developments, the directions of which were outlined by Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Sergey Lukyanov, speaking at a meeting of the Scientific Council of the Nizhny Novgorod State Medical University on December 21, 2012:

  • individual cancer therapy;
  • creation of artificial organs and bone implants.

"A very high level of research and a good human potential of the Laboratory of Fluorescent Bioimaging have created all the conditions for the establishment of the Institute," said Professor Igor Terentyev, Vice–Rector for Scientific Work of Nizhny Novgorod State Medical University.
