CRISPR against atherosclerosis

Gene therapy will protect against heart disease without drugs and diets

Sergey Kolenov, Hi-tech+

Startup Verve Therapeutics intends to use CRISPR to introduce mutations into the genome of any person that reduce the level of "bad" cholesterol. The project has already attracted multimillion-dollar investments from Google.

Some people cannot lose weight, although they are on a strict diet, while others remain slim, eating fast food and neglecting training. The reason for this injustice lies in the DNA. For example, certain alleles of the PCSK9, HMGCR and NPC1L1 genes reduce the level of "bad" cholesterol even in those who do not limit themselves in food.
