Dietary supplements for weight loss: the FDA warns!

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned of the possible dangers of using several dozen drugs for weight loss.

Most of the preparations are biologically active additives (dietary supplements) produced in China. Their use can be dangerous because of the content of prescription drugs, often in doses significantly exceeding therapeutic ones. At the same time, none of these substances are mentioned in the ingredient lists on dietary supplements packages. Most of them contain the following drugs or combinations thereof: sibutramine and rimonabant, the anticonvulsant drug phenytoin and the laxative phenolphthalein, which is prohibited for use due to carcinogenic properties.

Counterfeit dietary supplements were sold in web pharmacies under the guise of "herbal remedies for fat burning". Currently, the FDA is conducting a search and seizure of these drugs. The possibility of criminal prosecution of manufacturers and distributors of counterfeit goods is being considered.
