Scientists called the deadly danger of a long working day

RIA News

French scientists have concluded that a working day of more than ten hours increases the risk of stroke. The press release of the study (Fadel et al., Association Between Reported Long Working Hours and History of Stroke in the CONSTANCES Cohort // Stroke 2019) is published on the website of the American Heart Association: Long work hours associated with increased risk of stroke.

For example, people who worked at least ten hours a day for at least 50 days a year had a 29 percent increased risk of stroke compared to those who did not overwork.

Among those who regularly worked ten hours for ten years, the risk increased by 45 percent. It is noted that overworking at work has had a particularly detrimental effect on the health of volunteers under the age of 50. "This is unexpected. It is necessary to carry out further work that will allow us to understand the cause of this phenomenon," said the author of the study, Alexi Descata. The study involved 143,592 people aged 18 to 69 years, whose condition was monitored for about seven years.
