China Radio International

With the sanction of the State Administration of Food and Drug Control of the People's Republic of China, an express AIDS test based on a saliva sample has been put on sale in the country, with the help of which people can independently check themselves for the presence of the AIDS virus.

The new drug was jointly developed by the Beijing Biopharmaceutical Company "Wantai" and the State Center for Engineering and Technical Research of Diagnostic Tools for Infectious Diseases and Vaccines against Them, test results can be obtained within 30 minutes. The results of clinical trials conducted by many reputable departments of the country show that the developed tool can guarantee 100 percent accuracy of the results obtained.

"Checking for the presence of the AIDS virus with saliva does not mean that the virus can spread through saliva," said Zhang Jun, deputy director of the aforementioned center, adding that usually a few weeks after a person is infected with the AIDS virus, his immune system produces antibodies to the virus, therefore, blood, urine, saliva and tears can be such antibodies have been detected.

Now in China, all AIDS virus testing tools are used with a blood sample, which does not allow people to meet the needs of self-control. The use of rapid urine and saliva tests is becoming a nationwide and global trend in the control of infection with the AIDS virus.

The State Center for Engineering and Technical Research of Diagnostic Tools for Infectious Diseases and Vaccines against Them was established with the approval of the Ministry of Science and Technology in 2005 at Xiamen University.
