Geriatric offices for elderly Muscovites

Doctors for pensioners appeared in three metropolitan polyclinics

Svetlana Shilova, Rossiyskaya GazetaTherapists' offices for pensioners have been opened in three metropolitan polyclinics.

This was stated to journalists in the Moscow Department of Health.

According to the press service of the city's health department, new offices of geriatric doctors have been operating in polyclinics No. 5, 46, 220 since the end of summer. In the coming months, offices will be opened in polyclinics No. 3 and 68.

The new therapists will work only with elderly people, pensioners. The department noted that, according to the rule, specialists have such a division – a person is considered young up to 45 years old, mature from 45 to 59, elderly from 60 to 74, then senile age comes, and after 90 years a person becomes a long–liver.

Patients of a geriatrician are people from 60-65 years old and older. By this age, chronic diseases accumulate in a person, because, as gerontologists say, no serious illness or injury passes without a trace, in particular, vision and hearing deteriorate, bones become brittle, memory is impaired, confusion, dizziness, fainting and so on occur.

A geriatrician develops an examination plan and treatment tactics, he works together with cardiologists, gastroenterologists, rheumatologists, neurologists and other narrow specialists. But the main goal of a doctor is not to cure, but to help an aging person maintain an independent lifestyle for as long as possible. In order to become a geriatric therapist, doctors were trained in advanced training courses. Over time, geriatric offices will be opened in all outpatient centers of the city.
