A record number of applications have been submitted to young scientists for the Moscow Government Awards

Applications for the Moscow Government Awards for Young scientists for 2016 have been accepted in the capital. This was reported by the press service of the Department of Science, Industrial Policy and Entrepreneurship of the city of Moscow.

According to the results of the competition, the winners will be paid 31 million rubles. The number of participants in the selection was one and a half times higher than last year and reached 573. Thus, this year's competition has become a record number of applications in its entire history.

In 2016, the number of applications in the nominations "Science to Megapolis", "Technical and Engineering Sciences" increased by more than 2 times. The number of applicants in the nominations "Chemistry and Materials Sciences", "Advanced Industrial Technologies", "Electronics and Communications" has almost doubled compared to the previous selection. Out of 573 applications, 232 were submitted from representatives of Moscow universities, another 203 – from research institutes, 138 - from Moscow enterprises.

"The increase in the number of applications submitted indicates that the initiatives of the Moscow Government to support science find a wide response in the community of young professionals," said Natalia Sergunina, Deputy Mayor of Moscow in the Moscow Government for Economic Policy and Property and Land Relations. – At the same time, there is a growing general interest in everything related to science in the city. More recently, another Science Festival was held in Moscow, which was also attended by a record 840 thousand people, and mainly young people - schoolchildren and students."

Future laureates will be paid 31 prizes of 1 million rubles each. 26 awards in the field of research and development will be awarded to individual participants or research teams of up to 3 people under the age of 36. Another 5 prizes in any nominations will be awarded to doctors of sciences aged 36 to 40 years inclusive, who participate in the competition individually.

379 applications were submitted for the award in 2015, and 207 a year earlier.

Moscow Government prizes for young scientists have been awarded on a competitive basis since 2013.

In 2016, in the field of research, prizes will be awarded in the following categories: "Mathematics, Mechanics and Computer Science", "Physics and Astronomy", "Chemistry and Materials Sciences", "Biology", "Medical Sciences", "Earth Sciences", "Social Sciences", "Humanities", "Information and communication technologies", "Technical and engineering sciences", "Science to megapolis".

In the field of development, young scientists will receive awards in the following categories: "Aviation and space Technology", "Urban Infrastructure", "Biotechnology", "Pharmaceuticals, medical equipment and materials", "New materials and nanotechnology", "Advanced industrial Technologies", "Transmission, storage, processing, protection of information", "Instrumentation", "Technologies of ecological development", "Electronics and communications", "Energy efficiency and energy conservation".

Participation in more than one nomination of the contest is not allowed. At the same time, the Moscow Government Prize for Young scientists is not awarded to its laureates again. Candidates for research nominations are nominated by scientists (scientific, scientific and technical) councils, councils of young scientists and specialists. In the field of development nominations, candidates are nominated by the heads of organizations.
