Health Foresight
On September 26, 2011, the Rosbalt press center hosted the launch of the unique project "Foresight of Health", designed to support the development of innovative technologies in the field of pharmacology and biotechnology.
The project "Foresight of Health" was established by the All-Russian public Organization "Business Russia" with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation and the State Duma. To date, this is the only project in Russia designed to attract the attention of the professional community and government representatives to innovations in the field of pharmacology and biotechnology, as well as to promote the introduction of future technologies in modern medicine.
The mission of the project is truly huge – it is to improve the quality and increase the life expectancy of people in Russia and in the world. Its implementation is based on the achievement of such goals as assistance in attracting financial support to innovative and venture projects, encouraging manufacturers to create technologies to improve the efficiency and safety of products, integrating Russian innovative pharmacology and biotechnology into the world market.
During the press conference, representatives of the legislative authorities of the Russian Federation and pharmaceutical companies touched upon the issues of attracting investments to innovative and venture projects in the pharmaceutical market, the problems of integrating Russian innovative pharmaceuticals and medicine into the world market, the future of Russian pharmaceutical innovative technologies.
"Foresight of Health" is a project aimed at identifying innovative developments in the field of pharmaceuticals and medicine. On an annual basis, pharmaceutical market experts will monitor, identify and award innovative projects that deserve special attention from the professional community, as well as state and executive authorities.
During the press conference, all participants agreed that Russian innovative pharmaceutical technologies should be developed in cooperation between Russian scientists and leading international companies, but noting the important and decisive role of state support. "It is the state that sets the "rules of the game" in the pharmaceutical market, therefore, it is the state, first of all, that stimulates the development of innovations in Russia," commented Sergey Kolesnikov, Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation. It is for this purpose that the international project "Foresight of Health" is designed to unite various structures on its site in order to develop and support innovative developments requiring large investments in cooperation.
An important issue of supporting innovations in the field of biotechnology was raised by Victoria Anashkina, CEO of Amgen, a world leader in biotechnology, developing original drugs for the treatment of serious diseases in the field of nephrology, oncology, etc. Ms. Anashkina outlined the prospects for the development of the biotechnology industry, emphasizing that it is a "high–risk industry", since more than 90% of new drugs under development, unfortunately, do not reach the market.
Vladislav Deigin, CEO of FarmaBio (resident of the Skolkovo Innovation Center), touched upon the problem of weak implementation of scientific developments in practical medicine, drawing attention to the high potential of Russian scientists with a good "Soviet" base. "Observing global trends, our country cannot yet boast that we are among the leaders of the pharmaceutical industry. Thanks to the Foresight of Health project, we will be able to determine our coordinates and those areas where we occupy leadership positions, so that we can participate on a par with global innovative projects," said Mr. Deigin.
In the speech of Sergey Smirnov, head of the representative office of Novo-Nordisk, emphasis was placed on innovative ways of treating such a serious social disease as diabetes mellitus. The prevalence of diabetes in the world determines the need to use the entire research potential of the world leader in the treatment of diabetes mellitus to find ways to treat the disease even more effectively.
Sergey Shulyak, CEO of one of the leading research agencies of the DSM Group, suggested that the structure of the Russian pharmaceutical market will change and in the context of the proposed strategy of the state by 2020, the ratio in the market of domestic and imported drugs may reach a ratio of 50/50, whereas now the share of imported drugs is significantly higher.
Andrey Chicherin (Member of the Board of the National Direct Investment Agency, CEO of NP Capital) drew special attention to the issue of investment in innovative projects. Mr. Chicherin raised the issue of stimulating the development of regional clusters that play an important role in the development of pharmaceuticals and biotechnology in Russia, and highlighted the project "Foresight of Health" as a good means to convey an important topic of innovation to the general public.
At the end of the press conference, David Melik-Huseynov, Chairman of the Expert Council on Healthcare of the Delovaya Rossiya public association, expressed confidence that within the framework of the Foresight of Health project, all entities directly related to innovative technologies in the field of pharmaceuticals and biotechnologies, such as the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, investors market analysts, representatives of "Big Pharma", will be brought to one platform to jointly solve the problems of their implementation in the industry.
Within the framework of the project, the organizing committee will identify the most promising innovative drugs, mark the most important research in this area. An award ceremony for drug manufacturers and researchers will be held annually. There will also be an annual specialized publication – atlas "Foresight of Health", which will collect complete information about the winners and nominees of the award.
