Helping hand

MSU students have developed a bionic prosthesis

"Search"

The first serious step in science. MSU students have created a bionic prosthetic arm. And this is not just an educational work, it is a sample ready for industrial production. Now he is preparing for certification.

The device consists of three parts. A special bracelet reads electrical signals from the surface of the skin. The computer uses neural network algorithms to analyze the data received and forces the prosthesis to perform the intended actions.

With it, you can, for example, take a fork or a glass, open the door and even play the piano. In total – up to 9 different actions. You won't have to learn to use a new hand for a long time. The first steps can be performed almost immediately, it will take no more than a month and a half to fully master.

"With this prosthesis, I can squeeze and unclench my fingers. Recently I tried to play the piano, and I succeeded," Ekaterina Zaikina, a user of the demo model, shares her impressions (next to her is Egor Vetkin, the main developer of the prosthesis).

The prosthesis is made of an alloy of aluminum and titanium. All plastic parts are printed on a 3D printer. According to the young developers, the cyber arm is assembled from serial spare parts, so a separate line will not be required for industrial production.
