How much is a pound of fat?

Weight loss Fees helped Britons lose weightCopper news
Paying for weight loss has proven to be an effective means of combating obesity, according to Times Online (Cash incentive for slimmers more effective than diets, study claims).

These are the results of a pilot study conducted by the National Health Service in Kent.

As part of the Pounds for Pounds program, developed by Weight Wins, obese Kent residents were offered various financial rewards depending on the number of pounds lost. In particular, citizens who lost 50 pounds (22.7 kilograms) and did not gain weight again within 6 months could count on a bonus of 425 pounds. Those who lost 30 pounds (13.6 kilograms) received 160 pounds after six months.

The maximum reward that losing weight Britons can receive under the Pounds for Pounds program is 1,000 pounds. This amount can be received by patients who have lost 150 pounds (68.1 kilograms) and stayed at this level for two years.

According to Weight Wins, 600 Kent residents who took part in the pilot study lost an average of 14.4 pounds in weight. A year after the start of the study, approximately a quarter of the participants continued to undergo control weigh-ins in the hope of receiving a reward. The weight of participants in this group decreased by an average of 13 percent, which significantly exceeds the effectiveness of conventional diets.

According to the general director of Weight Wins, Winton Rossiter, financial incentives for losing weight patients can be a cost-effective measure, since the costs of the UK National Health System for the treatment of diseases associated with obesity exceed 4 billion pounds per year.
