For the first time in the world, Russian scientists have received full-fledged embryos grown from ovarian tissue cells after its removal. The success was achieved by the staff of the National Medical Research Center of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology. Academician V.I. Kulakov (Moscow).

In the Russian Ministry of Health, the applied technology is called unique. It is designed for women suffering from cancer.

Chemo or radiation therapy can cause irreparable damage to the germ cells and end in infertility for such patients. Therefore, they are looking for ways to overcome infertility, which they will be able to use at the end of the course of treatment.

The essence of the technique is that the outer (cortical) layer of the ovary is frozen for subsequent transplantation (after cancer treatment is completed). And the inner, cerebral layer, embryologists and doctors of the V.I. Kulakov Scientific Center use as a source of immature eggs.

"For the first time in the world, it was possible to successfully grow embryos to the blastocyst stage (the stage of embryo development on 5-7 days) from immature oocytes (eggs) obtained from ovarian tissue. The genetic test showed that all three embryos do not carry chromosomal abnormalities and can give a healthy pregnancy," the Ministry of Health noted.
