Island of freedom from hepatitis

In Cuba, it was possible to defeat hepatitis BMedicInform.Net

Cuban scientists have developed a vaccine against hepatitis B and carried out mass immunization of the population.

Now officials officially declare that there is no hepatitis B in the country among people under the age of 15.

We are talking about the Heberbiovac HB vaccine, produced by the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology in Havana.

Since 1992, doctors have vaccinated every newborn in Cuba with the hepatitis B vaccine. Students, medical workers and patients on dialysis are also vaccinated.

At the moment, all residents of Cuba under the age of 31 are vaccinated. According to medical data, vaccination has reduced the number of cases of hepatitis by 99.09% compared to 1989. For example, last year only 21 cases of infection were recorded (all patients were over 30 years old).

Officials also reported that the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology exports hepatitis vaccine to about 40 countries around the world.
