On April 5, Igor Goryanin, Executive Director of the Biological and Medical Technologies cluster of the Skolkovo Foundation, and Veronika Skvortsova, Deputy Minister of Health and Social Development of the Russian Federation, signed a cooperation agreement.

Systemic biomedicine, biopharmaceuticals and medical bioinformatics will be the main priorities in cooperation on the introduction of innovations in healthcare. This year, the Skolkovo Foundation is going to finance about 20 projects in the field of biomedicine. "These projects will be selected in accordance with the program policy defined by the Ministry of Health and Social Development of Russia," Igor Goryanin said. Cooperation in biomedicine involves the creation of a new generation of vaccines, new cellular medical technologies, etc. Work in the field of biopharmaceuticals involves genomic and postgenomic drug creation technologies, protein engineering, planning and monitoring of clinical trials. Within the framework of systemic medical bioinformatics, modeling of the structure and function of drugs, creation of biomedical databases, computer programs for biomedical research will be carried out.

The Deputy Minister expressed hope that "the Ministry of Health and Social Development of the Russian Federation and the Skolkovo Foundation will be able to create a single expert council, develop common approaches to project evaluation." According to Veronika Skvortsova, the document is aimed at ensuring that "the best achievements of biomedicine, biopharmaceuticals, tissue, engineering, nuclear methods should be applicable to medical practice."
