Samara Medical University has become a platform for testing a new Neurochat device. It allows patients who have suffered a stroke or have severe speech disorders to communicate with others. The device reads the patient's thoughts and transmits them as a text message.

The development of the new technology in Russia became known during the international scientific conference "Neurocomputer Interface: Science and Practice", which began work in Samara on Thursday.

According to Alexander Semenov, executive director of the Neuronet industry union, prototypes of the device for clinical trials are currently ready. It works on the basis of the brain-computer interface. A wireless headset with electrodes is connected to a person's head, which reads the pulse sent by the cerebral cortex when a person focuses attention on a specific letter on the keyboard. As a result, the text is typed.

Industrial production of the device is planned to be launched at the end of next year. The final price of the product has not yet been announced.

The need for such assistants is great. According to the developers, up to four million patients in Russia currently suffer from severe speech and motor function disorders and are doomed to lack of full-fledged communication.
