A new antibiotic with 800 times reduced toxicity will be tested in Kazan

Scientists of the Arbuzov Institute of Organic and Physical Chemistry of the Kazan Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences will conduct clinical trials of a new antibiotic, 800 times less toxic than similar drugs. This was stated by the director of the Institute Oleg Sinyashin, reports TASS.

The new medicinal substance belongs to the group of fluoroquinolones – broad-spectrum antibiotics, the name of the new drug has not yet been given, said Sergey Bykovsky, president of the pharmaceutical company Pharmcontract in Kazan.

"Preclinical trials of the antibiotic have been completed, clinical trials will take about three years, I think the drug will enter the market after 2020," he said. Pharmcontract will allocate about 30 million rubles to complete work on the drug. "The company will act as an industrial partner in the development of an antibiotic with a reduced toxicity by 800 times," Bykovsky said.

For clinical trials at the Arbuzov Institute, "there are specialists – chemists, doctors, pharmacists, technologists," Sinyushin said. The new antibiotic was developed by the specialists of Pharmcontract. On the eve of the management of the company and the directorate of the Institute signed an agreement on strategic partnership.
