Drinking alcoholic beverages in moderation protects men from impotence, writes New Scientist, citing research data.

It is known that excessive alcohol consumption leads to erectile dysfunction, but in small quantities alcoholic beverages protect men from this ailment, says Kyu-Kim Chye, an epidemiologist from the University of Western Australia, based on an anonymous survey of 1,770 Western Australian men.

The authors of the study, the results of which were published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, state that the percentage of impotence among men who drink alcohol was 25-30% lower than among teetotallers, writes Ewen Callaway.

However, "to claim that a bitter drinker has any advantages would be socially irresponsible," warns Kyu-Kim Chye.
