The world's first human head transplant was performed on a corpse in China during an 18-hour operation. During the procedure, it was possible to restore the spine, nerves and blood vessels. This is reported by The Telegraph (World's first human head transplant a success, controversial scientist claims).

The successful head transplant was announced by Italian neurosurgeon Sergio Canavero at a press conference in Vienna. The operation was performed by a team from Harbin Medical University (China) led by Dr. Ren Xiaoping (Xiaoping Ren). According to Canavero, the head transplant of a living person will take place in the near future.

In September 2016, a neurosurgeon published a video showing animals (a mouse and a dog) that survived a trial head transplant operation. During the animal experiment, polyethylene glycol was used, which was injected into the affected areas of the spinal cord and helped restore connections between thousands of neurons.

The operation on the corpse was carried out in preparation for the transplantation of the human head of a Russian programmer suffering from a neurodegenerative disease. However, there is no convincing evidence that the operation will take place.
